Large-scale airborne, land and marine geomagnetic surveys remain an important source for detailed regional near surface data. The combination of remote sensing and ground survey measurements through generation of seamless digital grids has resulted in new data sets describing crustal magnetic anomalies across many regions of the globe. This talk is a review of the studies presented during the session 5.2. It focuses on applications and case studies of geomagnetic surveys providing surface (land and marine) and airborne magnetic data, as well as the interpretation of this data with respect to the spatial and temporal evolution of the Earth’s magnetic field.
