PY - 2010// TI - From hot spring to steam: dispersal of the thermophilic archaeal communities of the Kerguelen Archipelago N2 - The kerguelen Archipelago is a large (~7000 km2)uninhabited island located in the Indian Ocean, on the Antarctic tectonic plate (49°20'0.24" S; 69°20'0.24"E). Climatic conditions of the Kerguelen Archipelago are considered as cold (average annual temperature ~ 4.5°C, with very stong wind). Howeve, the Archipelago is situated on a geothermal hotspot, which is responsible for heating subaerial water, which in turn can be fund as localised hot springs and steamers at the surface of the Archipelago. Undoubtely, thermophilic and hyperthermophilic microorganisms could trive in these environments. Our study is the first survey of the thermophilic archaeal communities present in the hottest (>90°C) hot springs of the Rallier du Baty (RdB) Peninsula, the southernmost, westernmost part of the Kerguelen Archipelago.8th International Congress on Extremophiles 12-16 N1 - exported from refbase (http://publi.ipev.fr/polar_references/show.php?record=252), last updated on Mon, 08 Jul 2024 23:38:22 +0200 ID - GramainA.2010 ER -
